Therapy Dogs?

Question:

You will have to find a local organization that provides this service.  They certify you to handle the dogs themselves. Fidos has a lot of links try thier page to fina a national testing facility http://www.fidosforfreedom.org

You have a lot of different options.  Since you are already set up with a place you like to visit you will probably want to get certified through an organizations such as Delta Society, Therapy Dogs International, Therapy Dogs Incorporated, Alpha Affiliates, or a couple others.  The other option is to join a group that is local to you.  My dog Oso visits for the Friendship Foundation which is a strictly local group.  He is certified only for visits done through their program.  Some of the national organizations offer broader certification.   The exact process will differ from organization to organization.  Basic obedience, tolerance of mishandling, and acceptance of strange noises, sights and smells will be a part of testing for any competent organization.  They should all test for aggression toward other animals – not just dogs. For a list of organizations see http://www.dog-play.com/join.html Diane Blackman http://www.dog-play.com/  http://www.dog-play.com/TOTE.html "For the dog who must spend a great deal of time alone, basic training builds esssential self confidence.  Dogs who respond to commands, who work, who synchronize their brains and bodies, who succeeed, take control of themselves and their emotions.  "The Body Language and Emotion of Dogs" by Myrna M. He is not officially certified as a therapy dog but I would like him to be.  What is the process? He is very well trained and I know he can pass with flying colors.
